Saving Our Son

Mark,

Mark is a life saver for our family. When my son found himself in serious legal trouble, we found Mark online. The one thing that stood out from his website was his caring for animals. To me, this was an instant signal that Mark would also care for my adult son, a person who could not speak for himself. Mark dropped everything to speak with us and to meet my son. Through Mark’s careful assessment of the situation, he agreed to take on an extremely difficult case. Without divulging any privacy, I will say this case involved drugs, felonies, and serious mental illness. Mark became our lifeline and legal expert to a myriad of law, courts, jails, mental hospitals, prosecutors and hoops I never imagined in the legal system.

We all knew starting the legal proceedings, that justice for my son was getting the mental help he desperately needed, and serious mental illness made my son in a position where he could not speak for himself. Mark was amazing with him, caring, reassuring, calming, Mark went above and beyond being a lawyer. He became someone my son learned was fighting for him, someone my son knew would do everything he possibly could.

Mark was honest with us every step of the way, sometimes that hurt, but also I respected him for never sugar coating anything. And at the same time, he quickly also stated the positive possibilities so we always had hope. Mark would pat my son on the shoulders during court appearances and I am sure they have a special bond.

One thing I learned from this 2 year incredibly complex legal case with Mark, is he is *extremely* knowledgeable. What he doesn’t know, he researches. He leaves no page unturned with research. Mark is incredibly intelligent. Because serious mental illness was involved, along with crime, things were very difficult. I am so happy to say justice did prevail. My adult child is getting the mental help he needs so desperately, and will go forward to rebuild his life. If you don’t already know this, more than half the people incarcerated have mental illness. They never understood the ramifications of their actions and also never hurt anyone. They only hurt themselves. Mark was about justice from day 1. He fought for us and he succeeded in exactly what was right : getting serious treatment for mental illness, not jail.

We will always be grateful. Mark exceeded all expectations.
